sometimes i wonder what life would be like if the library in alexandria had never been burned. global politics, surely, would have panned out differently, right?
it’s a really silly thing to think about, maybe, but i do wonder sometimes if any of the people involved in that catastrophe ever looked at the burning place and wondered what exactly they had done. it’s sad to think of how much we lost. thousands of books, gone forever. it’s an ugly thought.
